The All
Aspiring Generalist is an Understandary project.
The All
The subtitle of this piece is "In praise of generalism," and as is fitting for such a topic, the article is a collection of thoughts and references stitched together into a whole that is more useful and impactful than the collection of individual pieces—they become more than the sum of their parts when unified in this way.
I found myself nodding along and actually saying "Yes!" and "Exactly!" out loud as I read this; there are some really lovely thoughts and historical bits of data woven into the larger mix, and this is ultimately a celebration of generalism via a bundle of arguments for why it's a legitimate and excellent way to approach knowledge and the world.
This is a longer read, so make sure you have some time to invest in it. And the magazine in which it was published, Believer, is a consistently solid publication that's worth checking out, as well.
