Gardening
I love engaging with things I never would have sought out myself, so randomized playlists and curated selections of things are very much my jam. The Sample sends you a different newsletter each day so you can taste-test a bunch and subscribe to the ones you like.
(Sponsorships allow me to produce this missive and send it out to everyone for free—so a big thanks to the sponsors, and if you’re keen to sponsor an issue of AG please respond for details) :)
Gardening
There are some tasks and routines and hobbies and pastimes that seem to be, if not universal, nearly so in providing folks with a type of neurological rhythm that's difficult to achieve via any other mechanism: something that engages our bodies but allows our minds to wander meditatively, once we have the basics down.
Cooking is one such activity (and it serves that purpose for me almost daily), but gardening is another I see referenced and celebrated a lot because of what it offers, beyond the direct outcome of the work performed.
The Marginalian has a lovely piece on gardening and the role in plays in some very creative and productive people's lives: https://www.themarginalian.org/2022/05/07/writers-artists-gardens/
