Escape Room Design
Escape Room Design
I’m a huge fan of escape rooms.
It’s one of the things my family does to bond, so whenever we meet up, wherever we happen to be, we track down the local rooms and try them out (it’s like role-playing board games, which is another of our bonding activities).
Sometimes we romp right through them—the easy- and mid-level stuff isn’t much of a challenge after you do enough of them—but the difficult ones are still a thrill. Once you’ve seen enough of these sorts of puzzles, you come to appreciate the clever arrangements and challenges, alongside the aesthetics of the room(s) itself.
I found this interview with an escape room designer interesting, as it provides a look at the escape room world from the perspective of the people trying to make these things accessible to the folks who were dragged their by friends, while also being interesting to people like me and my family (who are looking for something new and interesting and challenging):
