Catastrophizing
It can sometimes be productive to imagine negative outcomes so we're better prepared if the worst happens.
But there's a point at which "useful" becomes "intrusive" and such thoughts can actually hobble our capacity to plan (or do much of anything else, including enjoy life).
This is called "catastrophizing," and it's something we're primed to do (for a variety of probably survival-related reasons), but which isn't terribly healthy or helpful beyond small, context-expanding, action-inspiring doses.
